Why I love Sutherland (2)
This is Balnakeil, and Faraid Head, just west of Durness. There are two beaches at Balnakeil, separated by a rocky cliff. When the tide is out, you can walk from one beach to the other, when it's in you have to go over the top. There is an MOD lookout point on Faraid Head, where they observe military operations at Cape Wrath. It's the only place in the country where the Army, Navy and Air force can work together in combined operations with live ammunition.
On the left of the picture is Durness golf club, the most Northerly course on the mainland. The ruin of Balnakeil church is in the middle, then Balnakeil house and farm on the right.
Went to a NW Sutherland Food Link committee meeting in Durness this morning, we then went to Cocoa mountain for coffee, and then a walk along the beach with Tanni.
Had some rain overnight, a few mm's which wetted the surface, but I'm sure the wind has dried it out again..
