Book festival-Glasgow
I have just returned from Glasgow's Book Festival where I attended a special tribute to Arnold Kemp.
I had the privilege of working for him for many years on the Glasgow Herald and more than ten years after his sudden death, he is still regarded as one of best editors of the 20th century.
He later worked on The Observer as Foreign Editor and columnist and his skill in both jobs became legendary.
Part of his legacy is that history will see him as one of the towering figures of newspaper journalism, probably the last of the great editors.
Not only was he a brilliant editor and writer but he was loved by all his staff. No small achievement.
This afternoon as part of the Aye Write, Glasgow's Book Festival, a special tribute "Confusion to our Enemies",was made to marks the launch of his book The Hollow Drum as an e-book.
The journalists paying tribute to Kemp were Jackie Kemp, ( his daughter), Julie Davidson, Magnus Llewellin ,editor of The Herald, and Robin Mckie, Science editor of The Observer.
