Champions of Pizza
Since September last year me and the boys have attended every papa johns trophy match and today saw the final step, the final, on the hallowed turf of Wembley.
The nerves, excitement and trepidation were so much higher than Tuesdays affair, this match meant more.
Arriving at the stadium flag flying and excitement building, we started bright in the first five minutes then the boys seemed to lose their nerve and before we knew it 1-0 down!! My heart sank but the goal woke the team up and Ben Wiles equalised with a screamer! What a moment for our home grown boy! 1-1 at half time, time to regroup! Sutton came out and got 2-1 up early on!! We knocked and knocked on that door, and finally on 90 plus 6 Tutu made it 2-2!! What a way to open your goal scoring account!
Extra time was on the cards, I was crying, dare I believe that we might just do this! Ogbene stepped up next scoring a beautiful goal to take us in front for the first time!
I could almost really enjoy the match, we led at the half time break of extra time, and finally Icky finished it in the second half with the match finish 4-2!!
Watching those boys celebrate you could see what it meant, what memories and what a journey, now it’s over and we have that trophy secure with I wouldn’t change the way the match played out, I would like the 10 years back that I’m sure the stress of the match robbed!
I hope this gives the team the boost and the belief that they are winners , that they deserve to be winners and where they are and they push on in the last 7 games of the season!!
Tonight though I’ll rest my croaky voice and soak up the memories of an unforgettable day and one that will forever be etched in mine and the boys minds! UTM!!
