Wood anemones
After two days of wintery weather, suddenly it's spring again - still cold, but bright and blue and full of flowers. I walked up the hill and into the wood; I hadn't been up there for a while, and was delighted to find it carpeted with wood anemones, bright and starry under the trees and beside the path, and dotted with the first few bluebells. There were lots of bright celandines too, and the banks of the lane were studded with violets, stitchwort and speedwell as well as celandines and dandelions. It was glorious and I had it all to myself; it lifted my spirits enormously.
