Butterfly buns with broken wings

So, it is another food-related Blip from me this evening. We have a Baking Club at work in which we take it in turns to bake cakes for us all to gobble down on a Monday afternoon (a good energy boost for the first day of the week). I posted my previous effort when I was last on duty as an earlier Blip.

I made some butterfly buns that I spotted on Saturday Kitchen being knocked up by James Martin. They looked fairly foolproof and so I thought I would give them a go. It turns out that foolproof they were not. I am a fool, and I cooked two batches using the recipe - one very curdled mix (straight into the food waste bin) and the second slightly curdled - before Charlotte advised me that the recipe should use three and not four eggs (apparently I should have known that 6oz butter, 6oz sugar, 6oz flour = three eggs). I was advised to revert to Mary Berry's even more foolproof all-in-one recipe, which is as advertised - chuck everything into a bowl and mix.

Anyway, they turned out edible, but not overly attractive. A dusting of icing sugar may do the trick just before serving. Charlotte said that they were 'manly'. Not sure if this is good or bad. The whipped cream with lemon curd stirred through was delicious though!
