Cicloclassica Puccini e Classica Musica

SUNday was a SUNNY day, Hurray! We joined about 400 plus cyclists in the first annual Cicloclassica Puccini bike ride - we rode 50 km from Lucca to Lago Massaciucoli and back. At the mid-point we parked our bikes and took a boat accross the lake to visit the home of Puccini. Everyone got a chocolate cigar to commemorate the ride and to remember what caused the great composer’s final demise. Ironic for a bunch of cyclists. Extras: One of the canals by the lake has many fishing huts, some with fishing nets ready for the next catch. We made it make to Lucca, just in time (well, 15 minutes late) for the gratis concert at the Boccherini Instiute. To enter the concert hall, we passed through ancient wooden doors with skulls painted outside - what could that mean? We settled into our seats and relaxed in our muddy cycling clothes to listen to ‘bella musica’. Eyes closed, I let myself become enveloped by the music - the flute, violin and pianoforte blended beautifully as one, neither overpowering the other. A full day.
