Cedar

Rain on a Western cedar, wet glaze on rough bark, redwing blackbird’s morning call from a high branch.

To native people, it was a tree of prayer,
a tree of healing, a connection to spirit.
It was the Tree of Life.
Mystical power came from each stand,
and this tree was planted by my own hand.
