Sunshine and warmth

This is a quilt a student made in one of my classes.

Patchwork and quilting sometimes hasn't got a great image. It conjures images of your grandmother in front of the fire stitching away. Whilst this was a necessity one time, those times currently no longer exist. So why would you take the time and effort to make a quilt when you can walk into any department store and buy one for very little money ?
We are in a era of designer makes , but if you think about it....a quilt like this is truly a one in the world one off item. Designed by the maker who has carefully selected the colours and stitched it together with love. It's a piece of art with a purpose , it puts a smile of the receivers face, looks good and keeps you warm.
This quilt was made as a wedding gift and I'm sure not too many of us would turn down a made to match colour scheme gift like this .......
