2022 Sunday — Grandkids

When our granddaughter Ashly contacted us on Wednesday, March 9th, asking if we'd be at our Cayucos place on April 3rd, we were surprised and delighted, and arranged our upcoming SoCal medical appointments so that we would be here at the California’s Central Coast.

They have not been here for quite awhile; the last time they came they left little RJ with his daddy's parents (who they share a BIG house with) and came here just the two of them for Ashly's 31st birthday. I think it was a "getaway -- overnight -- date" the first since the baby had been born.

This time they would be bringing RJ and they were planning to stay 2 nights. Ashly is on spring break from teaching high schoolers.

They arrived at a little before 3:00 this afternoon. We knew that one evening we would barbecue for dinner and one evening we would go out to celebrate Robert's March 30th birthday.

So after they arrived we asked which evening they wanted to go out and they said, "Let's go tonight!" So we decided to drive to Morro Bay to have dinner at Dorn's. This photo doesn't reveal our view (lots of backlight) of Morro Rock but it is quite a sight. This was the best capture of little RJ who could careless about a photo.

When the sun did set it was just to the south side of the Rock and we over-heard our waitress tell some others that it takes about 3 weeks before the earth rotates enough to get to see the sunset again on the north side. I had wondered about that and now we know.

Our meal was wonderful. I had halibut, Mr. Fun had filet mignon, Robert had a New York steak, and Ashly ordered seafood jambalaya. They ordered cheese cake and we ordered crèame brûlée for our celebration dessert.

Yes, we did severe damage to the piggy bank; on occasion that happens. Going out for celebration meals is a type of "vacation" for us since we almost never travel to vacations anymore. Everyday here feels like vacation.
