Energy
This week in the UK the energy price cap has been raised, and the cost of energy for an average household has increased by 54%. A further steep rise is anticipated when the cap is next reviewed in October. There are a lot of people feeling pretty desperate in consequence.
Climate change and energy security means that there should be a huge drive, and quickly, away from fossil fuels. Whether that happens remains to be seen, the outcome if it doesn’t does not bear thinking about. I am researching solar panels.
To demonstrate the fossil nature of fossil fuels I decided to blip this, it hides in a cupboard. It is part of a section of a lump of coal. It is also clearly a plant stem, the plant must have been growing in a swamp over 300 million years ago (the Carboniferous era). J’s father brought it - and other interesting lumps of coal rock - home from the pit where he worked when she was a young girl. It’s also a reminder of a hard working life underground. He loved these sorts of things.
