Another Bookclub book
I joined another meeting of the borderlines Bookclub today. This is an online group so everyone calls in. We had read A Long Petal of the Sea by Isabel Allende. It is a book that spans a long period of time from the Spanish Civil War, through the emigration from Spain of many of the people on the losing site and all the problems associated with being refugees - which is quite topical at the moment!. It also covered the coup by Pinochet in Chile and the further displacement of people. It’s wrapped into a story and there was some discussion about how much of the story is historically accurate. I found the historical stuff very interesting as it’s not a part of history I have ever considered. The story part had some good and not so good parts.
