Scuttled!
Over a thousand years ago, during the late viking era, 5 ships were scuttled in the narrow channels of Roskilde Fjord as part of a defensive system to deter aggressive neighbours.
25 years of painstaking excavation and conservation work has resulted in the 5 vessels now being on show in the fabulous Viking Museum in Roskilde.
Not only can you marvel at the workmanship of those viking shipbuilders, you can also admire their modern day counterparts as they use bygone methods to build replicas of those famous long ships.
Extra 1 - toolmarks of the shipbuilders still visible after 1000 years.
Extra 2 - the largest warship, built in Dublin.
Extra 3 - a modern day replica built using traditional methods.
Mrs B and I would like to thank you all for all all your kind wishes on our Silver Wedding anniversary ....... blipmates are the best x
