Getting ready

I'm back in the U.S. and down in Monterey for a weekend of wildlife watching and fancy fish dinners on Fisherman's Wharf. This is a Surfbird, a shorebird that breeds in the Arctic and overwinters along the rocky shores of California. They are about to depart; they've transitioned into breeding plumage already and should be heading off to Alaska any day now.
