The Art of Break

Italian lessons at Lucca Italian School are from 9:15 am to 1 pm, with una pausa (a break) alle 11:15 am. Most folks head to the nearby Pecora Nera (Black Sheep) cafe just past the abandoned Mussolini era Gymnasium for cappuccini e un spuntino (a snack). Or, if one prefers to not venture away from la scuola, there is always the vending machine. For half a euro (about 50 cents) you have quite a selection to choose from. I had the cappuccino today and it did not disappoint! The Italians take great pride in the art of break, and the population demands excellent quality!
