Farndale
FRIDAY
we took advantage of the sunshine and drove over to Farndale in the North York Moors to see the spring daffodils.
The story is that medieval monks from nearby Rievaulx Abbey planted the first daffodil bulbs here, however the flowers here are our native species (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) which grow naturally. The daffodils are protected within the Farndale Nature Reserve which was established in 1955 to safeguard the valley's famous flowers.
A stop off for lunch of sandwiches and home-made cakes in St Mary’s Church at the hamlet of Church Houses (see extra).
Another stop off at Helmsley and then a slow drive home in heavy traffic. Home in time for dinner.
