Past Grandeur
This is the entrance to the luxurious former George Hotel, a great favourite of actors and performers such as Stan Laurel, Cary Grant and Joan Crawford. In the earlier part of the 2Oth century, there were many theatres in Glasgow and the train stations were conveniently nearby.
It was converted by Neil C. Duff in 1907 from the original Cleland Testimonial Building ( David Hamilton 1835) but fell into sad decline by the 1970s. After it was sold about 20 years ago the facade was retained and the ground floor and interior have been used by a variety of outlets such as HMV and Topshop. I believe there are plans to convert the whole building into flats
