There are cowslips beside some of the local coasts and some have recently been planted beside stretches of new roads.  In the alpine area we saw many meadows and some foot paths with numerous mountain cowslips which I think look a bit like oxlip flowers.   The collage shows the differences between some that I saw today and some that I saw in the last few days in Austria and Germany.  The British cowslip flowers are bright yellow and are a bell shape with longer petals whereas the alpine flowers are daintier and paler yellow with more openly spread petals.
