Day trip to Hendon RAF Museum.
Yes, I know, another museum. This one is a bit different, a huge site on what was Hendon airfield, it has 6 hangars - a lot to see, so allow several hours.
The main picture has to be looked at on close-up. It's a model plane about 10ft long made entirely of the tools used by the mechanics/technicians etc involved in aircraft manufacture and maintainance.
For me, the most interesting part was about the early days of aviation. The name of Claude Grahame-White was associated with that pre WWI time, and he set up Hendon airfield and competed in races. I find it fascinating.
The first extra is of a propeller press used in the manufacturing process. It used 16 clamps to press the glued layers together. The second extra is the Short-Sunderland flying boat which you can walk (or rather crawl through).
I recommend a visit. (Entry and car park are free.) I'm not into the war side of things, but there's plenty to see, and the chance to stand under the wings of the massive Avro Vulcan is not to be missed!
