Salisbury - Nostalgia

Salisbury was where we met, got married and had all 3 of our sons.  It always has a special place in our hearts.  Even if this was not the case, it has a quiet English country feel about it wherever you go.  We are technically not staying in Salisbury but just outside the official boundary in a place called Stratford-sub-Castle.  The castle being Old Sarum - many thousands of year old mott and bailey which is still very much shaped in its original form, if the buildings are merely ruins now.
Anyway, what is great about this site is the walk directly from our Camper Van out of the gate and then down to follow the river on a 30 minute walk into the city.  See extra of part of the river walk and also some of the Queen's own birds.
Most of the day was spent browsing the Tuesday market, shops and enjoying a number of ad hoc conversations with locals who were just eager to participate and provide background information on the city or just needed a good old chin wag - not something that happens much back in the US.
Lunch was at the New Inn where we had eaten 3 years ago with the family when they were in Salisbury and then the walk back, stopping at a very convenient Waitrose which is just off the path by the river.  Tea is just about to be served - a Cornish pasty from the Cornish Bakery in Salisbury.
A relaxing though tiring day - walked nearly 15,000 steps all in!
