Rochdale Canal
The Rochdale Canal runs for 32 miles between Sowerby Bridge and Manchester. It has 91 locks and has the 2nd highest canal summit in England & Wales.
This summit is 600ft (193m) above sea level - and its high point is at a village named Summit - roughly midway between Todmorden and Rochdale. The boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire is also at this point.
Just down the road is the Summit Inn where you will find this stained glass mural. It used to be in the front door - but is now an illuminated panel indoors.
A stylised rendition of the Rochdale Canal and the locks near the Inn.
