How Far the Stars?

I've just been reading a history of how the Universe was measured. We tend to take for granted that distances have been sorted out by the boffins using science but the story of how they got there is fascinating. There are also still uncertainties and conundrums. I wonder where we will be in terms of our knowledge in 20 years time, 50 years?!
