Having only passed my driving test at 39 years old this is the first time I have driven to London solo.

The M4 must surely qualify as the most boring stretch of Tarmac in this part of the world. Only relieved by a mysterious (or not so) man at Reading services who pulled alongside me in his executive vauxhall with the line 'this might sound silly but I've got something exceptional to offer you' whilst pointing to a concealed package on the passenger seat secreted beneath a small rug of woven gold thread.

I wasn't feeling curious - Reading services tends to flatten any tendency to adventure - and refused.
