Time saver.

Opened my four-pack of baked beans earlier and one of them was naked, if you please. It struck me just how iconic but utterly run-of-the-mill the food can is - but how completely it has revolutionised food consumption.

I still make soups and stews using the ingredients some of which are scattered artily across the scene, but after working late AND hitting the gym tonight, time ran out.

Interestingly, one of the early methods of sealing cans was one of the reasons for the ill fate of the Franklin Expedition to find and navigate the Northwest Passage in 1845. The book "Frozen in Time" is a good read on this subject.
