The famous hedge

The world's largest hedge, according to the Guinness Book of Records. Tricky to take a photo of, so it was Mike who braved the traffic and waited for the perfect opportunity!

The beech hedge is in Meikleour near Blairgowrie. Planted in 1745, it is 30m tall (100ft) and 539m long (586yds).  Having seen so many trees felled by the storms this winter, we weren't sure whether it would still be standing, but it was. The devastation is widespread throughout all the parts of Scotland we have come through. Huge areas of forest and woodland have been flattened.

We chose to go to Dunkeld today, which was a mistake! It was like Blackpool in the summer! Nose to tail traffic, and people wandering around with ice creams! Thank goodness our campervan is only a small one, cars were parked all over the place!

We beat a hasty retreat and had a restful afternoon with our books and plenty of coffee and cake!
