A Grand Day Out Again
Well, there was only one thing happening, wasn’t there? And we over 60s were getting the free bus there at 9am. Which of course ran late, and once we'd got over there and shelled out on a cab to the South side, it didn’t leave us long to get to the ground. Just long enough for a swift one at the Corona, chased down by the obligatory tinnie as we walked to the ground.
Obviously we hoped for a continuation of the previous week, and that looked very much "on the cards" as we romped into two goal lead with two absolutely top drawer goals from Simms and Kingsley.
Within a couple of minutes Sibbick, at his useless best, was turned inside out when he ought to have thumped it to row Z and it was 2-1. Hibs were right back in it. They were up for it this time. Worse was to follow - Halliday went off with an injury and then Halkett, our bloody captain. It was turning into quite a physical game as they chased it but Newell overstepped the mark and “got his marching orders.” Even against ten men we were struggling but we held out. May 21st, here we come.
Back to Shawlands to the Granary for a few beers, meeting up with AJ’s pals, then to the Horseshoe and the train back to Haymarket. And finally the Diggers! Actually, that wasn’t the final stop at all. I made it home.
