West End House
So that my legs didn’t seize up after yesterday’s twelve-mile walk, we went to Ely today.
We walked through the craft market and on to this pub – the internet says it has the best beer garden in Ely. It’s very pretty with lots of plants that attract things like bee flies (see extra), which are odd creatures.
After that, we went to the Prince Albert, which we didn’t think we’d been to before, but it turned out we had. They’ve built a new garden room.
We were peckish after that, so looked for somewhere suitable to eat, but found nowhere we fancied – it was too late for dinner/lunch and too early for tea/dinner. We ended up getting picnic stuff from Sainsbury’s and eating it in the country park, while watching some siblings being rubbish at playing piggy in the middle with their father.
We had an hour to kill till the next train home, so we sat outside the Cutter and watched the river.
The train home was delayed because of earlier signalling problems, so we got some coffee while we waited.
We saw a neighbour when we were about home, who commented that I’d caught the sun. This was despite the sunscreen slatherings and the broad-brimmed hat.
It was nice to get home and put my poor feet up with a nice cup of tea.
We will go nowhere tomorrow.
