Blowing in the wind
10.1C and bright with winds over 40mph and gusts of 60 Plus !
Maeve the Deerhound and I decided not to walk out the country road and down the field with the bridle path.
"Why ?" I hear you ask.
Well ... if you have a look at the blip you will see that the wind is so strong today that a lot of soil has been thrown into the air and is blowing west in huge billowing clouds. Rather like a sandstorm, but with the good soil from the fields. Sometimes it is left piled up by walls and hedges when the wind dies down. The sea is blasting its way along the coastline with choppy white topped waves too. You might even see the Northbound Scotrail train on the railway line down near the shore. It was almost obscured as it headed over the level crossing.
All of the recently ploughed, harrowed, and planted fields are like this today. On the way back up the main road that runs into Carnoustie there are huge clouds like this across the road. The road just disappears. Drivers are completely unsighted for a couple of hundred yards. This is a phenomenon we see each year when there is loose soil exposed and the winds reach any sort of speed. Maeve and I avoided walking anywhere near it.
We did go down to the shore at Westhaven but the sand is being blown along too. We decided not to be sand blasted and just looked at the waves from the edge of the car park before turning for home :-)
Update: I just saw a "Tweet" from @BBCScotWeather reporting gusts of 90 mph on the Tay bridge ... breezy !
