Lacock Abbey NT (Easter Monday 18th April 2022)
I had decided to defer my trip to Lacock Abbey until after the Easter weekend, but as I was driving past quite late in the afternoon on my way to Melksham I could see that the grounds seemed relatively quiet and decided to pay a quick visit to try to see the snake's head fritillaries.
I found them on the path to the Rockworks and was pleased to see that the staff had created some trodden down paths so that one could get up close to the plants without treading on any. I noticed a few of the white variations although the great majority were of the familiar purple chequers.
This is also the path on which the Abbess cat, also known as Smokey, frequents, so I walked up to the Rockworks to see if she was around. It has been a while since I have seen her but there have been recent pictures of her on the Lacock NT Facebook page. I didn't find her but as I'd photographed another grey and white cat the day before perhaps that is just as well.
With thanks to Miranda1008 for hosting Wild Flower Week.
