Good night old girl

We said our last goodbyes to Isla today, as she headed off to chase the eternal mouse. It turns out it was more than just arthritis, but you’re not suffering anymore. Rest in Peace Old Girl, Harrier of Foxes, Lady of the Single Ginger Paw, Wicked Stepmum and Devourer of Ham. I’ll miss you more than you’ll ever know.

At least it was sunny for her last day, and she managed to get herself outside to collapse down in the grass and feel the warmth. I was stroking her head as she passed, the vet giving me some time with her to properly say goodbye and choke down the tears. 11 and a half years with us - she was at least 5 when we got her from the rehoming centre, having been in a couple of households, one where she was mistreated, before coming to us.

But a lap cat from that very first day, with the loudest purr - we hopefully gave her the best life she could have wanted.

Heartbroken, even if it was the right decision in the end.
