Farr

This photo is unrepresentative of the day up at Farr.

There has been the odd spell of watery sunshine but heavy driving rain and gales have predominated. Despite air temperature almost in double figures the wind really scythes the body heat away and drives rain up the jacket sleeves and in about the hood opening.

That is that little project complete and it will need processed tomorrow.

"We need this job done really quickly but we don't know what we want and we haven't looked at the site ourselves yet"

Perhaps not the words actually used but when you start picking through things on the phone with some clients that is exactly what they mean. I took valuable time out of my weekend (such was their urgency) to make a tender visit to a possible project. There were so many points to be resolved that my task (the tender and indeed possibly the work itself) was impossible. I could not believe that the client had not alerted me to some of the more obvious issues; site generally defended by security fence and the only point of access was by climbing and descending an 8 foot wall. The other option was to climb in from the bottom up a slippery ivy covered cliff. Also the area is in dense impenetrable jungle and seems to have been adopted as an informal tip with old prams and bike frames (thrown over the fence) in the undergrowth to trip surveyors up. In a call to Mr A to discuss all this it became apparent he had not yet visited the site himself. The complexity was such Mr A has now off loaded the survey admin to a Mr B and I have been requested to do another site visit with him tomorrow when of course I should be working. I will have spent more time visiting the site to price the work than the job will take at this rate.

I really do wish people would think things out clearly and logically before lifting the phone or bashing out a two line email last thing on a Friday night.

"Loud scream of frustration!"
