Relaxing at the regatta

Today was an amazing day - my friend Edwina (from the Photo Club) and I had agreed to be volunteer photographers for the Ladies Regatta on Loch Awe, an hour's drive from here, latterly on a long, single track road to the village of Dalavich.

The place was heaving with rowers and paddlers from all over, and it had been arranged for one of us to go out in one of the skiffs while the rowers practised for the races tomorrow. That was something else! Four lady rowers plus one steersman, and your humble servant reclining in the bows with a camera! I could get used to this!

We were out for maybe three quarters of an hour and rowed across the width of Loch Awe to circle round the island where the ruins of Innes Chonnel Castle sit, which is my Blip today. The castle was a stronghold of the Campbell clan and dates from the 11th century or earlier. We - or they! - must have rowed over a mile before returning to the beach where hordes of participants were gathered, taking their turns at practising - see extra.

The weather was glorious, blue sky with white fluffy clouds, and I'm hoping it will continue tomorrow when we're returning to photograph the races from the comfort of a covered boat!
