Lilly’s tomb

‘A model of canine genius,’ from the early 19th century. Lilly belonged to a lady in the Duke of Devonshire’s family so was buried here in Chiswick House park.

We were lazy this morning and stopped frequently on our walk to bask in the sun. Started out with an intense discussion provoked by a book I’ve just begun, ‘Black Lamb and Grey Falcon’ by Rebecca West.

I’ve been sewing and managed to finish cuffs and the hem on a shirt. It never seems to come out quite right, and this time the pleats are backwards! This is why I’m no good at chess and struggled with geometry class. However, I actually think the reversed pleats look better on this shirt! Only the buttons to go now.
