River Almond , Cramond

Martin and I went through to Cramond this morning for a walk along the river. We watched in horror at a crow and a huge gull trying to get a meal of baby Mallard ducklings. The mother was doing her best to defend her brood of five, ushering them this way and that and flying at the predator birds. We watched and felt very helpless and eventually moved on, feeling quite sad. When we returned the same way about half an hour later - there were still five! Victory to mum this time!!
