Oars on the Ouse
This was one of the first of many shots today during an extensive wander around York, taking-in some of its less well-known sights. One of these was the Art Deco Odeon Cinema, which has an interesting architectural history. Others included a Cold War Bunker (happily showing no signs of current use); the Holgate Windmill (built in 1770 and a superlative as the UK's only five-sailed windmill, perched on a small roundabout and still producing flour; the Tyburn, where hangings took place over many centuries; Rowntree Wharf beside the Foss Navigation; the very smart Unitarian Chapell and the Merchant Adventurers' Hall.
