Caterpillars...

These are the caterpillars of the emperor moth. They've just shed their first skin and are so in their second instar. I do this at school to help my class understand the life cycle + that they prefer certain plants as food + identifying these plants in the school grounds. Hawthorn is a food plant, and that's what they are eating in this pic.
