Royal Scottish Academy

Lots of chores today mainly along the east end of town.  The Royal Scottish Academy building is in a great spot in the middle of Princes Street although many people probably walk past it every day with barely a glance.

The RSA was founded in 1826 and by 1835 leasing space in the Royal Institution building on the Mound.  When a purpose built gallery was constructed in the 1850s the Royal Academy moved in alongside the newly created National Gallery of Scotland.  In 1910 the RSA transferred back to the Royal Institution building which became their permanent home.  The building then became know as the Royal Scottish Academy
