If you can't beat them...

Canada Geese ( Branta canadensis )

Everywhere we go on the canal there are Canada Geese.  Currently, they are mainly seen as singles with the female being tucked away on eggs.  For some reason this couple doesn't seem to have a nest....... yet, there is still time.

They were originally introduced, as many problem species are, as decorative additions to the estates of the landed gentry.  This was back in the mid-17th century.  Decorative additions as rumour has it they are among the most inedible of birds.  Perhaps that is why there are so many of them around.
