PEACOCK
It's that time of year for Indian Peafowl or common Peafowl (Pavo cristatus); the males (Peacocks) are displaying for the females (Peahens) and hoping to get lucky. If they do, the hens will lay eggs and in a few weeks little Peachicks will be running around. Collectively, they are known as Peafowl.....although some people call all of them peacocks regardless of their sex......which is incorrect. The males are the cock birds; the females are the hen birds; the chicks are the.....chicks (duh!).

BTW.....that is NOT his tail being spread wide to attract the opposite sex. That is his saddle and it is attached farther up his back closer to the nape of the neck which can be seen clearly in the photo. Check out the extra to see what the tail looks like.

Thus endeth the biology lesson for the day.

This one lives at the zoo in Milwaukee along with many other peafowl. They roam all over the outdoors at the zoo and they never leave even though they can fly. Why would they? There's more than enough food to keep them there and they seem to enjoy panhandling the zoo's visitors. You can hear their ear piercing scream from one end of the zoo to the other.

EXTRA: Ever notice the backside of the peacock while he displays to the hens?
