South from Hill of Midland

I cycled down to Orphir to look for migrating ring ouzels on the hills there but no luck, though one was reported yesterday. A bird I have only encountered once in Orkney and then briefly and distantly. My best meeting was when I hiked, one summer's evening into the rock formation called 'the Quiraing on Skye. Strange calls were echoing back and forth and it took me a while to spot the several male ring ouzels singing in competition. I slept there and had the strangest dreams...
