Quod oculus meus videt

The Collective

I volunteered to help at this summer's commonwealth games and today was our role specific training in Birmingham.  About 40 of us were on the training session. led by Russ from Birmingham and Stevie from the Gold Coast of Australia.

We had a great few hours, getting to know more about our role as a venue transport team member.  I'm going to be based at the NEC, which is OK as the train that passes near our home goes through to Birmingham International.  We had some fun with ice breakers, role play and scenarios and it soon became apparent that some people were now serial volunteers for any events across the country.  The buzz they've got from doing this was clearly apparent and they were hungry for more.

This was at the end of the session and captures just a few of the people involved.  Our next training will be on site at our venues so we know more about what we will be doing.  So far we've been told that we will be controlling the load/unload zones for spectators, athletes or dignitaries coming to the venue.  It sounds great fun, though I doubt we will get to see any of the events themselves.

While walking to the training site from the station I used the 360 deg camera to capture an image of the Bull Ring (see extra)
