Dawn Redwood Tree

Went for a walk in the Cambridge Botanical Gardens this afternoon. The weather was rather dull, but it did not rain- and perhaps it was easier to walk around if it was not too sunny!!
This tree - the Dawn Redwood - was thought to have been extinct for about five million years. This specimen was the first planted in Britain after the tree was found alive in China in the 1940s! We really should see it in the autumn when the leaves turn orange and yellow!
