Plaza de Espana
What a busy day !
The hotel room is ridiculously hot so we had to put the air con on during the night!
Breakfast was in a little cafe near the hotel with excellent coffee, croissants and yogurt and fruit. Then we got the Metro to the Sofia Museum mainly to see Guernica (amazing) more Picasso, Salvador Dali and many more. When we were at the ticket machine in the station this lovely young Argentinian girl heard we were tourists and asked if she could help us with anything. She explained how our card worked and how we could both use the same one after loading up with cash. Sweet. Anyway, the museum, I love this type of art. I found new ones which I loved and got postcards of them.
Then we walked to Plaza Mayor - big and beautiful. Then we went to the Market San Miguel which we’ve been to before too and you choose from lots of stall what you eat. We had two Argentinian beef empanadas and vermouth to drink . We walked on and sat at the Royal Palace then Over to Plaza de Espana and the area around which was under construction in feb 2020 and is now transformed into a beautiful park and walking area. We couldn’t see Don Quixote and Pancho Sansa last time but there they were in all the glory. Beautiful pieces of statue work!
Then we popped into a Cafe that sold the most amazing little cakes before heading back to the hotel in the Metro. Omg I was wilting!
We are now heading out for food. I can’t get used to the late eating here!
The restaurant we went to was a Vegan one, it had good reviews and I fancied trying something different. Oh the flavours!! We had three plates to share, Nachos Angelos (some special sauce), potatoes in house sauce, babaganouch, all three tasted superb. Also lovely atmosphere and a very nice owner/waiter who had a chat with us asking where we were from and saying if we have any questions about Madrid to come back and speak to him.
