Windmill 'De Haas', Zierikzee

'Haas' means 'hare', which I suppose is referring to the speed of the vanes when the wind is blowing at 12 Beaufort.
'Zierikzee' = 'Zie-rik-ZAY'  (and not 'zie-rik-zie').

A fine day for the hunt, especially after six consecutive flower shots.  So glad the weather was ideal.  It was well worth the wait.  The windmill was facing away from the sun, but you can see the front in the extra.  On the left here is a neat row of cottages.  On the right here is a larger piece of property with a spacious garden, the border of which obstructs the view to the windmill on one side, as the extra will show you.  I could have gone down to the parking lot further behind the main shot, but the mill is standing just a bit too far from the edge of the dike and the parking lot is too 'low' under the dike.  Now if only I had a drone... :D))

Anyway, this rabbit was built in 1727 to replace a previous one which was built in 1600 and torn down in 1723.  In short, almost 300 years old and still looking like it was finished only yesterday.  It is standing on a dike overlooking the sea, so a very good windcatcher.  Of course, it is still functioning.  While I was marking its position on the map, I noticed that Google, or whoever marked it on Google, made a mistake by placing it in the middle of the houses.  Its proper position is on the field of grass directly opposite those houses.  In short, Google isn't as reliable as we might think it is.

The rest of the day spent MOOCking, topped with kitchen duties, AW had Thursday evening live bridge at Sweed's because Lavinia won't be able to play tomorrow..  Thing is, I'm still feeling good about that hearing.  Indeed, said the Viking, we just need to be a little more patient.  After already three years of this, he must be joking.  Nothing to lose, right?  :D))
