Sausmarez Manor

I had my 4th Covid jab this morning at an out of town surgery which is part of our GP group. It’s the first time I’ve been out of town since our buses had such a shortage of drivers that you never know what buses may run. There’s about 50 or 60 cancelled each day. It’s only about 35 minutes walk from the surgery to home; though that is at normal walking speed. I think it would take me about an hour! My dream was to walk home but really it was only a dream and when I was heading towards this bus stop deciding whether to keep going home the bus going to the airport passed in the other direction so I knew it would be back in about 20 minutes I decided to give in and wait. Happily a minute later another one came along and I was on my way.
Sausmarez Manor is the ancestral home of the de Saumarez family. Not to be confused with Saumarez Park which was the home of the de Saumarez family. Originally all one family James de Saumarez who was second in command to Admiral Nelson in, I think, the Battle of the Nile didn’t want to be taken for a Frenchman so decided to anglicise his name. He removed the ‘S’ and dropped the ‘de’.
