seeds of beauty

A quiet day today. I spent all morning in the greenhouse, planting seeds. I had found a packet of seeds which I had collected last August, when Mum was in hospital in Eastbourne after having a stroke. Sarah and I travelled down by train one afternoon, and on our walk from the station to the hospital, we passed a garden where some perennial sweet peas were trailing over onto the pavement, and just setting seed. I also found some Nigella and marigold seed heads outside Mum and dad's house.

Planting all those seeds today made me think back to when Mum was in hospital. She never wants to talk about it, but I have some nice memories from that week - eating meals with Dad as he reminisced about his childhood, and seeing the love between my parents when they were going through this scary time. Planting  seeds always makes me think about the continuity of life, as you can see from my very first blip!

At lunchtime, it began to rain. Sarah and I sat down together and did some future planning and then I went out for a walk. My legs were sore so when I came home, I put my feet up and read my new book - "A Single Thread" by Tracy Chevalier. I had visited Portobello Bookshop on Thursday and it would have been churlish to leave such an amazing shop without buying a book :-)
