Passing Freight

Today it was  my husband's birthday and we celebrated by going to the Mid Hants Railway( MHR) also known as the Watercress Line where, most fortuitously (!),  there was a Spring Steam Gala taking place. As well as a busy timetable for passenger trains there were also freight trains passing through and we had a tour of the impressive engineering sheds where the engines and carriages are restored and overhauled.
I trust I am  reliably informing you in saying the main  photo shows a GWR class 28XX  2-8-0 freight engine, on  loan from the  Severn Valley Railway, at Ropley station. The  extra shows MHR 's own LSWR  class S15  4-6-0 mixed traffic engine pulling a freight train through Ropley.

Later in the afternoon we made a short visit to nearby Hinton Ampner (NT) property to see the tulip displays and have tea.
In the evening we went out for dinner at Brasserie Blanc in Winchester.
The birthday boy reports he has had a very good day!
