The Last Day of April

A first chance to spend
time with a dear friend in more
than two years - happy day!

I was out the door at 7:30 to collect my friend, G. We had planned a road trip. She has been stuck at home all week following serious dental surgery. Her hope was to get out of the house and enjoy the drive and some food that she could chew.

We were off to Armstrong with the quilt store as our first stop. I didn't have to twist her arm at all because she is a quilter too. Armstrong has a farmers market each Saturday so that was the second stop. There were so many venders. We got to sample donuts, cider and sausage. Then it was time for lunch. The Village Cheese Company makes cheese but also supplies excellent meals. I added ice cream. Signs of spring were all around the town with tulips and blossoming trees. The town of Armstrong features several of the quilt blocks on the Barn Quilt Trail. These two are on the Museum building on the main street.

As we started for home, G had her eyes peeled for a sign offering farm fresh eggs. We made a stop for two dozen 'rainbow' eggs. At $5 per dozen they were a bargain.

We made another stop to photograph the balsam root that was blooming along the roadside beneath the pines. The yellow blooms are like sunflowers.

Our last stop before home took us into G's school to check on her chicks. She had a batch of eggs in an incubator when she was called away for surgery. In her absence one of her students tampered with the gauges on the incubator resulting in the loss of most of the batch. The same student tried to kill the two surviving chicks, so the chicks had to be removed from the classroom. Assured these two survivors were well fed, watered and protected, we turned for home.

The rest of my day will be very quiet at home. I have wonton soup for dinner.

We have a mostly cloudy day with a spattering of rain and a high of 15 C.
