Thunderstorm
We were up early, walked through Retiro Park down to this good breakfast spot I found. Being a Saturday it was busy so waited a wee while on a table but it was worth the wait. I had their home made granola with yogurt and fruit followed by a melt in the mouth croissant and jam. Nice
We were near Atocha station so popped in to see the large botanical garden inside it.
Then we walked on to the Lavapies district, less touristy but good street art and large mercado and watched the fishmongers gutting the large collection of fish to sell to the customers. I was amazed at the variety and what folks were buying. I wish we had choice like this, well I wish we had a proper market but then we aren’t in a position to grow most of our fruit and veg like they do in Spain.
Then walking on to the beautiful La Latina district where we sat and had some refreshment and people watched . We were here sitting in the very spot we chose with Ben in 2020.
More walking which took us to the popular areas which were MOBBED and glad came on Thursday when quieter. The picture is from the roof terrace of an Art Deco building. Note the rain arriving. Well not just rain, monumental thunder and lightening which we ran for cover as were walking on to somewhere for food. Half hour of torrential rain then off and back to sun. We found this home cooking cafe/restaurant with a vintage theme and had tasty food. It was around 4.30 but we had packing etc to do in the evening.
Walked back through the park to the hotel and showered and packed and happy to see Portugal dropped the PLF the day before .
Then the bombshell struck, in the shape of a text message from Easyjet informing me that our flight next morning was cancelled!!! WTF!! Cue frantic looking for an alternative flight (air Europa)’ much more expensive but EJ didn’t have one till Monday (too late)! There was no explanation why of course. So i apples for a refund and looked up the compensation .
Am just glad we got a flight as everything is booked for onward on Sunday.
