Balled

In the early Autumn, as the Summer comes to an end, spiders seem to want to come inside our houses, no doubt to find somewhere safe and dry to overwinter.  At that time of year the number of spiders always seems surprising as we collect them and put them back outside.  

But this sight perhaps helps to explain it.  This ball of wriggling little spiders is perhaps no more than 1 cm across.  But all these tiny baby spiders are (potentially) going to have turned into bigger spiders by the end of the Summer. Of course, many of them will be eaten by predators of one sort or another, but enough of them will survive to need collecting and taking back outdoors in the Autumn :-)
