Waiting

This was about 10 minutes before mum arrived in the hearse.
On the wall above the piano is a picture of her mum as a young lady, she died when mum was 36. On the plate rack is a model bus made by mum's younger brother who shocked his 5 sisters when he died suddenly at 72, a few weeks before my dad 6 years ago.
My mum said we could have the piano when she goes. My brother told me she even made provision for the transportation costs, but that's just what she was like.
This is the room where my dad placed the new colour TV more than 50 years ago. Where as a family we watched The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, The Generation Game, etc. It's where we overfed on wonderful Christmas dinners. It's where my dad spent his final hours and also my mum; in exactly the same place.
It is more than a picture, it connects 4 generations and tells so many stories.

I am grateful my boy knew his Nana for 10 years and discovered what a wonderful, kind, lovely person she was. I think, in a strange way, we all thought she would be here forever. We were not wrong.
